A sprung mounting for a solid tyred wheel has the tread (5) profiles to fit over the edge of the wheel rim and covering the sides of the rim (7). The ends of the tread are contoured to fit into grooves in the wheel rim. The rim has a disc section with offset panels (4) for strength and lightness, complete with fittings holes (8). The solid wheel has the sprung properties of the pneumatic tyred wheel and uses simple materials. The wheel rim can be hollow and filled with a low cost, elastic filler and the tread is secured on the wheel rim by an adhesive layer.
