摘要

In a new process for the prodn. of N-D-ribityl-3,4-xylidine (I) by catalytic hydrogenation of ribose in the presence of nitroxylene or xylidene, where the ribose used in the form of the epimer mixt. obtd. by epimerisation of D-arabinose with molybdenum (IV) cpds. and coarse removal of D-arabinose, is claimed. This simple process uses readily available raw materials, which avoids the use of highly toxic reagents, and gives (I) in very pure form.
