PURPOSE:To make a small-sized steering device and shorten an axial dimension of the device by a method wherein a radius of reference pitch circle of the tooth of the secondary pinion and other various dimensions thereof are continuously varied around an engaging point at the neutral position of the rack, and the tooth shape of the rack is varied in response to the changed dimension. CONSTITUTION:The secondary pinion 14 is arranged such that its partial or all radius of a reference pitch circle and other various dimensions are continuously varied around a neutral position of the rack 7 at its right and left sides, and a tooth shape of the rack 7 is corresponded to a variation of the tooth shape of the secondary pinion 14. In this way, the primary pinion shaft 3 is arranged at a rear or back surface of the rack 7, the secondary pinion 13 is arranged at a front surface of the rack 7 to hold it therebetween, thereby the steering device is made small and a steering ratio R may be varied continuously as the handle is rotated. Further, it becomes possible to provide such a number of rotation as required in the handle by a rotation of + or -360 deg. -alpha of the secondary pinion. |
