A structural from resin material is produced by cutting groups of linear slits in a thermoplastic foam sheet and opening out the slits into lozenge or hexagon shapes. A transparent plastic film can be used on one or both sides and the material then formed into containers. The figure shows the prodn. machine. Foamed thermoplastic (e.g. polystyrene) is drawn off its reel and passes between top/bottom/side guide plates (15, 15', 14) to a sliter (3), where rows of longitudinal slits are made by rotating cutter blades (6). The material is moved on a conveyor belt (10) through an oven (8). Containers produced have their contents visible, the material can be combined with other plastic materials. |
