Binder for brickwork, as compressed sheet - contg. fibrous material and hardenable binder

Bricks, esp porous perforated bricks, are bonded by placing in the vertical and/or horizontal joints a bonding material in the form of a sheet of (a) a fibrous material, and (b) a hardenable binder. In this addn., components (a) and (b) are compressed together as sheets or plates. (a) The fibrous material may be natural, synthetic or mineral, e.g. glass, asbestos or metal fibres. (b) The binder is esp. a dry mortar, mixed with a reinforcing agent, a wetting agent and a hardening accelerator. The amt. of mortar is 73-62 wt.%. The reinforcing agent is esp. a dispersion of a synthetic material, pref. of polyvinyl acetate or propionate, and/or a vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer, the amt. of dispersion is 0.1-10(6) wt.%. The wetting agent is pref. a hydrophilic, organic cpd., partic. a melamine deriv., a melamine-HCHO resin, and/or lignin sulphonate. The binder is pre-formed, can be applied by unskilled labour, is easily handled and does not fall into the cavities.
