The connection between the outer conductors of the cable to be jointed is made from solid tubular sections (9, 37), one fitting inside the other. There are no slits in either tube. Instead, one tube, pref. the outer (9), has longitudinal indentations (39) which protrude radially inwards and bear against the outside of the mating section (37). These indentations (39), typically three spaced at 120 deg. intervals, and the tube thickness are so dimensioned that when the parts are pushed together there is sufficient spring pressure to give an electrically and mechanically stable contact. In order to give easy entry for the inner tube (37) the indentations stop short of the end of the outer tube (9). The arrangement is mechanically stronger than in designs with an axial slit to give the spring effect. It is thus less prone to distortion by misuse.
|
