<p>Circuit breaker has a stationary contact which continues as a lower arc guide plate, and a moving contact which is joined by a flex to an upper arc guide plate. The arc guide plates are the ends of a stack of arc quenching plates with narrow gaps through which the arc must pass. An active cylindrical element which passes across the stack is made of a material which releases an electronegative gas w n an arc acts on it and which provides added cooling and deionisation of the arc. Pref. materials are acrylic resin or polyacetal. This is a simple method of raising the switching capacity of a circuit breaker and of preventing arc-backs.</p> |
