<p>The thermal switch has a metal housing (3), one end having the shape of a hollow screw (8). The cylindrical shaft (14) has an external thread (18) along part of its length, and the screw body (8) is hexagonal shaped. A bimetal strip (9) is fixed inside the shaft (14), having a welded or riveted contact (19) at its free end, this contact being able to move freely between contact strips. The latter are brought out to a plug unit (12), terminating in two plug contact pins (21, 22). The plug unit (12) is made of plastics and is seated in a hollow in the screw head (8) sealed with an 'O' ring washer (20). The metal housing (3) can be screwed into the engine block of a vehicle so that the shaft (14) is in the cooling water system. The thermal switch detects excess temp., switching from one contact to the other.</p> |
