PURPOSE:To improve the stability of weld quality and workability, by rotating the solishing belt contacting the tips of the upper and lower electrodes from above and below, within the plane forming roughly a right angle to the electrode axial line, and removing the metal picked up on the tips of upper and lower electrodes and correcting the electrode surfaces quickly and automatically. CONSTITUTION:On the moment of onset of pickup phenomenon of electrode surfaces, a dressing device 3 is inserted between upper and lower electrodes 1, 2 after opening, and hollow guide members 5, 6 are introduced into each electrode. As a result, the polishing cloth surface S3 of a polishing belt S is pressed by the electrodes and is held contact from the two sides. In this state, a worm 14 is rotated to rotate the device 3 normally or reversely in the horizontal direction, and the electrode 1, 2 surfaces are polished by the surface of the belt S. In this case, since the cloth surface S3 has a certain elasticity, the tip of electrode is formed in an R-shape. This device 3 is simpler in structure than in the conventional devices, and the metal and impurities deposited on the electrode furfaces may be quickly removed in the same and unchanged position, without having to dismount the electrodes from the machine. |
