PROPHYLACTIC TREATMENT OF MASTITIS

A composition is disclosed for the prophylactic treatment of mastitis in milk-producing animals. The composition comprises a film-forming polymer latex and a water-soluble polymer thickening agent in an aqueous medium. The composition has a thixotropic value of 15 to 1200 dynes/cm2 and an upper viscosity limit of 10 poise at a shear rate of 250 sec-1. The composition is used to coat the teats of the animal by dipping the teats into the composition.
