The braking system has a main brake cylinder (2) actuatable by a brake actuating pedal (1), electrically driven brake pressure transducers (13, 22) connected to the wheel brakes and able to be connected to the main cylinder via series valves (15, 24), at least one sensor (51) for detecting desired deceleration and an electronic control unit (50), driving the brake pressure transducers and valves. A device (9, 32, 34, 35), e.g. a vibration generator, associated with the brake pedal is controllable by the control unit to generate a detectable deflection of the brake actuating pedal.
