NEW MATERIAL:A tetrahydrophathalamide derivative of formula I (X1 is H or halogen; X2 is alkoxy, substituted benzyloxy, etc.; X3 is H, alkenyloxy, etc.; R and R' are alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc., occasionally substituted). EXAMPLE:N,N-Dimethyl-N'-(4-chlorophenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalamide. USE:A herbicide, having effects against paddy-field weeds, e.g. Echinochloa oryzicola VASING or umbrella plant (Cyperus difformis L.), and against field weeds, e.g. large crabgrass or green amaranth, and controlling only weeds selectively through soil treatment before budding, with no harm to leguminous, e.g. soybean plants. PROCESS:A compound of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula III, possibly in a free or base form with no effects on the reaction, e.g a salt of hydrogen halogenide, e.g. hydrogen chloride or bromide, to obtain a compound of formula I. |
