PURPOSE:To prepare a wax having excellent compatibility and dispersibility in solvents, vehicles, resins, etc., by feeding an unsaturated epoxy monomer having a special structure to a polyolefin at a specific ratio in the absence of a solvent, thereby grafting the monomer homogeneously to the polymer. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polyolefin (pref. the molecular weight is 400-9,000 and the ethylene content is >=70mol%) is grafted with (B) an unsaturated epoxy monomer expressed by the formula (R is polymerizable ethylenic unsaturated bond-containing hydrocarbon group; R<1> and R<2> are H, 1-4C alkyl or R<1> and R<2> together form a 2-3C alkylene; n and m are 0 or 1) (pref. allyl glycidyl ether etc.) in the absence of a solvent preferably at 100-200 deg.C in the presence of a radical initiator with feeding (B) at a rate of 10<-5>-10<-2> (pref. 4X10<-5>-10<-3>) mol/hr per 1g of (A). The epoxy equivalent is preferably adjusted to 200-100,000. |
