The shaver removes surface fibres from animals or skins. It frees the fibres from the fibre-engaging comb to facilitate collection. A bar with teeth (5) is moved in an arcuate path from a starting position transverse to the length of the fibres, longitudinally of the fibres until fibre fracture is achieved. Tbe direction of movement is reversed to free the fibres.The fibre-engaging comb alternatively comprises tootheddtoothed bars pivotally mounted witbin a rotating drum and projecting through slots in the drum to engage the fibres, and withdrawing into the drum to release them
