PURPOSE:To reduce the temperature rise of outside surface, suppress the occurrence of cracking and distortion and enable continuous casting without water-cooling the outside surface by forming the welded padding layer provided with recesses on the outside surface of a roll shaft having a cooling water hole at its axial center part. CONSTITUTION:A welded padding layer 3 made of heat-resisting steel is formed on the outside surface of a roll shaft 1 having a cooling water hole 5 at its axial center part and fine-diameter parts 2, 2 at both ends, and multiple recesses 4 are provided on the outside surface of the padding layer 3. This method decreases the contact area of the padding layer 3 and continuously cast product (billet) and reduces the quantity of heat input to the padding layer 3. Further, the strength and function as a roll are provided by the roll shaft 1 and the measure against higher temperatures is assumed by the welded padding layer 3 made of heat-resisting steel having the recesses 4. |
