The rectangular block is made of five layers. Layers one, three and five are aligned while layers two and four are offset from the others in two directions for jointing. The blocks are load bearing for light buildings such as pavilions, but must be given an outside weatherproof rendering either in the factory or in situ, the faces of the block being roughened to take such a dressing. The blocks are of wall thickness and of height and length governed by the workable weight of the block, some lightening being possible by casting holes into the joint faces of the block.
