Heating is carried out by effecting a relative displacement of the heating system (15) w.r.t. the ends of the preforms following a radial direction orthogonal to the common longitudinal axis (A) in a manner that heats the periphery (7B, 9B), then the center of the preforms. End-to-end assembly of two fiber optic preforms comprises: (a) arranging the two preforms in a coaxial manner along a common longitudinal axis (A); (b) rotating the preforms around this common longitudinal axis (A); (c) heating the ends (7A, 9A) of the preforms with a heating system (15); and (d) bringing the preforms parallel to the common longitudinal axis (A) in order to press them against each other to form, after cooling, an intimate contact between their ends. The heating is realized by effecting a relative displacement of the heating system w.r.t. the ends of the preforms following a radial direction orthogonal to the common longitudinal axis in a manner that heats the periphery (7B, 9B), then the center of the preforms.
|
