Generator hollow profile conductor - has extruded outer tube with pushed-in cooling pipes made as seamless hot-extruded units

The hollow profile conductor for generator winding features one or more cooling channels formed by pipes forced into the sheath tube conductor. The inside surface of the latter contacts the outside surface of the cooling pipes to ensure high rate of heat transfer. The components of the hollow conductor are extruded separately and the assembly can be subject to drawing for final size control. This simplifies both the mfr. and testing of walls for possible defect leading to leakage. Both the sheath tube conductor (2) and the cooling pipes are made as seamless pipes which are hot extruded. This simplifies the tooling and avoids bridge-type dies applied in extrusion of single-piece hollow conductors made by conventional methods.
