Blade mfr. process for woodworking machinery - uses rolled strip of slightly decarburised steel requiring only single grinding stage

The blades used on woodworking machinery can be made from a surface hardening steel, instead of the usual through hardening steel, by beginning with a rolled strip of suitable cross-section. The strip is cut into lengths of the required size and these blanks are then hardened. The blades are then subjected to only a single grinding operation to produce a cutting edge. The grinding of large areas of blade is thus omitted with a reduced manufacturing cost and less material wastage. A slightly decarburised steel is most suitable for this method of manufacture.
