An articulated joint comprises a convex-shaped inner ring (4) supported on a horizontal axle (3) and a concave-shaped outer ring (7) seated in a bearing eye (9) of a bearing casing connectable to a spud tank. Sealing is provided by casing covers (11), each cover being formed with a surface shaped to receive a grooved ring seal (15) having two sealing lips contacting the casing cover (11) and the inner ring (4) respectively. Each grooved ring seal (15) is preloaded via a pressure ring (18) and screws (19) to a preset value. Each pressure ring (18) is slidable between an outer retaining ring (16) contacting under the bias of a spring (21) one sealing lip and a corresponding surface of the casing cover (11) and an inner retaining ring (17) contacting under the bias of another spring (21) the convex surface of the inner ring (4) and the other lip of ring seal 15. A groove (25) in ring (17) provides a trap for any material passing between ring (4) and ring (17).
