Live vaccine against theileriosis in cattle - contg. lymphoid cells infested with attenuated strain of Theileria annulata

Live vaccine against theileriosis in cattle consists of cattle lymphoid cells infested with Schizota of the attenuated strain Theileria annulata KTa No. 7. Pref. the vaccine is administered as a dose contg. 0.1-3 million living, infested clles. The vaccine is prepd. by growing T. annulata CY-1 (isolated from the mite Hyalomma detritum) on cattle lymphoid cells in a nutrient medium for 20-100 days, esp. in 6-12 passages over 60-80 days at 37.5-38.5 degrees C. The schizota are then collected and frozen in presence of a suitable cryoprotectant, esp. glycerine, at is not >-60 degrees C. The vaccine has high immunogenicity and is 10 times cheaper than known vaccines. It is only weakly reactogenic and induces no side effects in vaccinated cattle.
