<p>A closed-end, cylindrical grinding sleeve for grinding machines is produced by knitting a tube with a closed end which is subsequently impregnated with resin, coated with abrasive powder and cured. A flat-bed knitting machine with dual beds may be used to produce the tube, whereby the initial row of stitches is made across the needles of both beds, followed by subsequent course knitted alternately in one bed and then the other, to produce a tubular body. The method produces, in one operation, a sleeve of any required length with a closed, even, seam-free end which is integral with the body. This simplifies and speeds up the subsequent processing.</p> |
