Valve for carburettor slow running jet - has double action to prevent both overrunning and back-firing at different conditions

The valve has a body with a nozzle in its end. A plunger is pressed by a spring against a seat on the nozzle to control the fuel flow. It is pulled against the spring by a membrane acted on by engine suction. When the engine is braking the vehicle the plunger is pulled to enrich the mixture which prevents backfiring. A sleeve round the plunger closes the fuel inlet through the body. It is pulled back against a spring by a solenoid energised from the ignition circuit. It thus shuts the fuel off when the ignition is turned off and prevents overrunning.
