To ensure that water stored in a flushing cistern (1) on a water closet is fully replaced promptly after use, provision is made for doubling the water outflow system. A second outflow opening (8) is sited close to the first, and has a valve for closure. It is sited at the point and at a water level (7) where out flow of a desired part quantity of water is ensured after valve opening. This can involve the whole volume of flushing water, or only a certain proportion of it. The system makes it possible to use different quantities of flushing water for different functions, such as 9 litres for one, and 3 for the other.
