Elements are supported on a mine working conveyor, in provision for screening the travel area from the coal-cutting and conveying area, in a sloping setting and/or on a heavy seam. The screening elements are in the form of sliding side-pieces, guided and supported so as to be extended and retracted on the sidewall by an extension device. Extension devices are in a covered position behind the sidewall, and are pref. thrust-piston gear units. There is pref. only one for each sliding side-piece. The screening mechanism is simple and robust, and is easily mounted on the conveyor sidewall.
