The hinged joint (13) by which the lid (12) is attached to the tankard is mounted on a metal support part (16) which is connected to the tankard handle. On the side (19) facing the handle (11) at least one recess (18) is filled by an integral continuation (26) of the cast metal band (25), which is set round the handle. The support part is firmly anchored without additional reinforcement which could weaken the cross-section of the handle. The metal of the cast band (25) can have a lower melting point than that of the support part (26).
