<p>TITLE PLATE MARKING APPARATUS A vertical member is supported by a frame adjacent a plurality of driven horizontally positioned rollers that support a plate to be marked. A carriage is mounted for reciprocal movement on the vertical member. An extensible piston rod of a cylinder assembly is secured to the carriage, and the assembly is secured to the vertical member. A driven shaft is rotatably supported by the carriage. A marking wheel having marking elements is secured to the end of the shaft above the surface of the plate to be marked. An electric motor on the carriage is connected by a belt drive to a single revolution clutch of the driven shaft. Rotation of the shaft urges the marking elements into marking engagement with the surface of the plate to mark the plate. After each actuation of the clutch the driven shaft is rotated to return the marking wheel to a position to permit the plate to pass unobstructed beneath the marking wheel. During the plate marking operation the cylinder assembly exerts a downward force upon the carriage to maintain the marking wheel in marking position. A second cylinder assembly is operable to laterally pivot the carriage to facilitate a change of marking elements on the marking wheel or marking wheels on the shaft.</p> |
