The machine spreads fertiliser evenly over a surface, having a driven scatter member reciprocating on a vertical axis and preceded by one or more adjustable metering ports. One at least of the latter in one or more settings is unsymmetrical in relation to the vertical lengthwise centre-line of the member. One or more baffles are provided between the ports and the outlet end of the spout (22). The baffles (31) at right angles to the spout end portion axis, to regulate the material flow.
