<p>In a process for extracting U with an organic solvent, the extracted U is sepd. from Fe contamination by (a) stripping the organic extract with an aq. soln. contg. CO3 and OH ions and a balancing amt. of NH4 and/or alkali metal ions; and (b) sepg. pptd. Fe2O3.nH2O from the aq. soln. Amt. of CO3 ions in the aq. soln. is 10-100 mole % in excess of 3 moles per mole of U, and the CO3 concn. is less than 1 M (pref. 0.2-1.0 M). Amt. of OH ions in the aq. soln. is at least 3 moles per mole of Fe plus sufficient OH to neutralise the extract if acidic. Process is esp. useful for recovering U from wet-process phosphoric acid.</p> |
