PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polishing tool capable of smoothly following up change in curvature of a worked surface, efficiently smoothing waviness, and of polishing an optical element such as a lens, a mirror and the like with high accuracy when an aspherical surface great in change of the curvature is to be polished. SOLUTION: This polishing tool is so constituted that an elastic body 4 made of polychloroprene rubber, which is formed out of a polisher 2 made of pitch, and of a leaf spring 3 as a plate member easily deformable vertically, is mounted to a tool base 5 formed into a cylindrical shape whose diameter is sufficiently small with respect to a worked surface such as an optical element and the like. When an aspherical surface great in change of curvature is to be polished, the whole of the worked surface can be uniformly polished while the worked surface L, the curvature of which is greatly changed, is being followed up, and a pitch polisher is also being prevented from being broken due to shearing force produced during polishing, and furthermore, waviness can efficiently be smoothed without letting the irregularities of the waviness small in cycle be followed up.
