Producing teeth for gill-bars - using punching operation to form square cross-section and tapered ends

Method is described of making teeth for gill bars or comber bars used in textile fibre processing by punching sheet steel strip. The punched teeth are arranged with narrow intermittent spacings into a core or base. The teeth have a square cross-section and are tapered towards their free ends. The metal strip may be up to twice as wide as the comb base initially, but reduces in width at each punching operation. After punching, the teeth are fettled using a revolving trimming drum. The replacement of broken or damaged teeth in comber bars may be effected more easily using the punched teeth of the invention.
