PURPOSE:To obtain a dimensionally accurate and uniform hollow sooty body of silicone dioxide by a procedure in which a burner provided biasedly to the axis of a precursory material is moved in the radial direction so as to grow the hollow sooty body of silicone dioxide in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:An inert gas from the pipe 16 is blown into the raw material gas- generating container 15 filled with silicone tetrachloride to cause bubbling, whereby the raw material gas containing the vaporized component of raw material liquid is produced in the inert gas and then supplied to the burner 1 from the discharge pipe 17. Also, an inert gas as a carrier gas, oxygen, and hydrogen are also supplied to the burner 1. When firing the gases, reactions occur in the mixed gases formed at the tip of the burner 1 to produce SiO2 power. The hollow sooty body of SiO2, having a given dimention is formed by horizontally moving the burner 1 provided biasedly by the distance C to the center of rotation of the pulling bar 24 in the inward and outward radial directions of the body on the basis of the position where the burner 1 is set. |
