A silencer has a sleeve (1) provided with outlet openings (3) for gas introduced through an inlet (2). The sleeve (1) contains particles (6) which are preferably spherical and the gas flow drives them against the openings (3) to form one or more layers provided with apertures for the passage of the gas. The size of these apertures depends on the gas pressure and on the dimensions, shape and elasticity of the particles (6) When the gas stops flowing the layer(s) break(s) up. A grating (7) prevents the particles falling through the inlet (2)

|
