PURPOSE:To enable the production of L-valine economically and efficiently, by cultivating aerobically a specific bacterium capable of assimilating ethanol in a midium containing ethanol as a main carbon source. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium of the genus Acinetobacter, capable of assimilating ethanol and forming L-valine from ethanol, is cultivated aerobically in a medium containing ethanol as a main carbon source to form and accumulate L-valine in a culture solution. L-valine is then collected. The abovementioned bacterium may be any strain separated from the natural world or a well-known strain, so long as it belongs to the genses Acinetobacter and capable of assimilating ethanol, forming and accumulating L-valine, and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus YK-1011 may be cited as the typical strain. The cultivation is carried out preferably at 20-37 deg.C, in a pH of 4-10, for 2-7 days. |
