PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption for generation of monochromatic picture data in a picture reader provided with multiple image sensors. SOLUTION: A GCCD 171, an RCCD 172, and a BCCD 173 are so constituted that they can be individually driven. When monochromatic image data is generated, only the GCCD 171 is driven and power supply to the RCCD 172 and the BCCD 173 is stopped, and monochromatic image data is generated in a monochromatic image processing circuit on the basis of an image signal outputted from the GCCD 171.
