For ornamenting ceramic products, such as wall and floor tiles, the firing skin or the pressing skin is removed, e.g. by abrasive blasting through a rubber mask or template, so that the ceramic material under this skin, which is different in colour and/or porosity, is uncovered, giving an ornamental effect.
