The hollow steel sections of a building structure are utilised as the radiators for the space heating. The sections (2) are filled with water as a fire precaution, to cool the structure, and fed with a fire pump (4). A pipe system (6) is installed within the hollow sections and supplied with heated water from a conventional boiler (7) and solar collectors (8). The hot water raises the temperature of the fire fighting water in the hollow sections which then act as radiators. The heat from the building frame is conducted along walls, floors and ceilings. Control of the heat output is obtained by fitting manually operated louvred panels across the corners of the rooms to enable the radiation effect to be reduced or masked completely.
|
