By providing a pile fabric having a pile length of 5 mm to 100 mm which is manufactured by knitting multi-filaments having a single fiber fineness of 3 to 30 denier and a total fineness of 100 to 750 denier and having a twist frequency of 150 T/m or less, and preferably containing 50 wt% of a flat cross-section fiber having an L/W (flat ratio) of the cross-section thereof of 2 to 25, a pile fabric can be obtained which has straightness of pile similar to that of natural mohair and provides a mohairlike pile fabric having a good balance of soft feel and nerve of pile, and can be obtained with little processing loss by employing a double stitch knitting texture in the knitting step mentioned above. <IMAGE>
