Impurities present in gas streams involves passing the gas through a particulate bed of adsorbent. The bed is retained inside a container of rectangular section with gas flow across the bed. The side walls for inlet and outlet of the gas are formed from a set of louvred slats. The slats are inclined at angle between 20 and 30 degrees to vertical, the ratio of the narrow side to length is 1:4 to 1:5. The angle of inclination on the inlet side is smaller than on the inlet side. The slats are bent over at their top ends. The adsorbent bed has pointed inserts at the base. The support slats can be replaced. For purifying exhaust gases from such components as SO2, Cl2, F2, etc. The system prevents dust present in the gas from blocking the inlet to the bed.
