<p>The invention is concerned with endoscopic surgical procedures involving positioning of surgical instruments, including snares, forceps, knives and electrodes within the body. One problem in such operations has been poor control over the movement of the instrument. This problem is critical where the procedure must be performed without direct visualization. Applicant solves the problem by providing, with the lumen of a tubular member (56), a tool (52) formed of a distal working end (58) and a longitudinal control wire (60). The control wire (60) is flat, helically twisted and sized to radially stabilize the position of the control wire within the lumen. The distal end of the tubular member has a predetermined bend (82), with a channel (86) cut therein in a manner selected to enable the working end of the tool to be automatically moved into the channel and thus reliably extended from a side of the distal end of the catheter. </p> |
