The heat-exchanger plate is for a solar collector or for heating, having a metal baseplate to which pipes for a heat-exchange medium are fixed by strips. Each pipe (3) is of material expanding under the internal pressure from the medium, so as to bear when in use against the strip (2) and plate (1). This can cause the plate to distort where the pipe bears against it, and the pipe can assume a flat oval cross-section. This avoids the need for filling intervening spaces between the pipes and plate with heat-conductive material.
