Fixed to the combustion chamber walls is a corrugated foil made of heat resistant metal and coated with a ceramic layer forming a support for a catalyst layer to which the gases in the chamber are exposed. Foil is pref. fixed to walls by a ceramic adhesive; and the foil is pref. perforated. Layer pref. consists of noble metals of the Pt gp., where 10 pts. Pt are used with 1-3 pts. Rh and 0.5-3 pts. Ir. The pref. chamber is a swirl chamber connected by holes in a plug to a main combustion chamber. The plug is made of heat resistant metal or ceramic, and its holes are coated with a catalyst. Used to eliminate harmful gases, esp. CO, NOx and hydrocarbons, from engine exhaust gas discharged into the environment.
