The adjusting drive is for a type carrier fixed to a shaft, partic. of disc shape with spring tongues carrying the characters and struck by a hammer against the paper, while an electric motor drives the shaft. A gear (23, 27) is fixed to the carrier shaft (3) and the motor rotor (21), and the two gears are coupled by an idler gear between, so as to leave no free movement. The idler gear (25) can be above or below the plane between shaft and rotor, so as to reduce the distance between the other gears, being held by a spring into engagement with them.
