Weld seams join prefabricated metal elements together to make p a cantilevered basic stairs nit which can be walked on even before its threads and risers are coated with wood stone or other material. Basic elements consists only of corner profiles (10) and filler profiles (18) cut from bar material. Filler profiles are arranged in a row in every tread and riser until staircase width is attained. They have one end (16) firmly welded to one side of one adjoining corner profile, and the other end (17) to a side of the other. This combines low intrinsic weight with high loadability and a wide range of staircases can be assembled from only a few different components.
