The cross section of a flexible waveguide is a rectangle (2) with rounded corners around the outside, and enclosing an opening (1) formed by a hyper-ellipse (2). The curve of this ellipse is given by a formula relating the X and Y Axes. I.e. (x/a) m+ (y/b) n=1, using multiplication factors greater than 2, but less than 22. In a second design, the cross section has approximately square sides and rounded corners, the shape of the sides being given by another formula. In a design with an interior approximating to the shape of the first, the interior face is made up of a large number of arcs of a circle of small diameter.
