<p>During winding of coils having a non circular shape, the length of wire required per time unit to obtain a faultless winding varies periodically. If the winding rotation speed is high and if the ratio of the sizes of the coil to be wound is unfavorable, the periodic variation of the length of wire required is so high that it is not possible, with the known wire brakes, to obtain a winding quality sufficient if the wire is to be treated with care. These opposite objectives are reached by the invention by means of an adjustable wire brake which is comprised essentially of a plurality of braking strings (21) wound into a single layer around the wire (8).</p> |
