The injection system increases fuel metering precision by reducing variations of the system's operational pressure. The metering valves (7) are actuated by an air sensor (3), and they can hold a constant pressure difference via control valves (24), this difference being adjustable in accordance with engine performance. The control valves are incorporated in a pressure control line (32), also containing an electromagnetic valve (37). The operational pressure of the injection system is controlled by a pressure valve (57), having a diaphragm (57) as the moving valve part. Parallel to this valve is connected a pressure control valve (64) with a conical valve cone (65). The latter permits fuel flow, after engine stopping, until the pressure in the injection system has been reduced below the injection valve's opening pressure. The pressure control valve function can be taken over by the electromagnetic valve, also designed for rapid pressure reduction after switch-off of engine.
