During heating of the first mold section (2) to the working temperature, the temperature of the ring (5) around it is regulated so that the gap (6) between these two components is greater than or equal to the minimum axial distance needed to move these components apart, and is less than the through-flow distance required for plastic to be able to be injected into the mold cavity (4). A method for regulating the temperature of a ring extending around a first disc-shaped mold section, this ring and mold section being movable relative to each other in an axial direction. The first mold section lies opposite a second mold section (3) and they can combine to form a sealed mold cavity, into which plastic can be injected to form a product which is removed after the mold is opened. During heating of the first mold section to the working temperature, the ring temperature is regulated so that the ring-shaped gap between the ring and first mold section is greater than or equal to the minimum axial distance needed to move the ring and first mold section apart, and is less than the through-flow distance required for liquid plastic to be able to be injected into the mold cavity during injection-molding.
