An alumunum alloy useful as a sacrificial galvanic anode in the cathodic protection of ferrous structures comprising a commercial grade of aluminum of 99.8-99.9 % Si, 0.02-0.1 % Fe, less than 150 ppm Cu and minor amounts of others, and an amount of added 0.01-0.06Wt. % In, 0.5-15.0 Wt. % Zn, and 0.03-0.4 Wt. % Si, the amount of added Si plus the maturally-occurring Si being at least 0.07 %.
