Tubular thermoplastics articles manufactured to resemble wood, cane, bamboo, reed, wicker, rattan, rush, and the like

The tubular articles are used in the production of furniture, and other structures, and are formed by e.g. extrusion of a tube (20) which is formed with indentations (24), (26), (27), and is coloured and veined (30) by solvent based coating, and formed with coaxially spaced rods (25). The tubes (20) are cut to length, bent as required, and after connecting together in various ways e.g. to make a chair, are tied together by straps (32) which have been extruded from thermoplastics material, orientated, and similarly indented and coloured by coating, the orientation recovering to cause tightening of the bound straps (32). The rods (25) may be formed in the tube (20) by axial compression, or by expansion of the tube issuing from an extrusion die, into each of sequential moulds which close around and travel with the issuing tube.
